Few communities let you ride out your front gate past a coffee plantation. At Atenas, the land is part of daily life.
A Working Coffee Farm
The farm grows Catuaí, an Arabica variety well suited to mid-altitude, windy country. An average harvest is about 100 fanegas. At roughly 38 to 45 kg of roasted coffee per fanega, our estimate for a medium roast is between 8,000 and 8,600 bags of 500 grams each, assuming efficient wet milling. These are estimates, not guarantees, and actual yields vary by harvest.
Saddle Up
Residents can board horses at Atenas and ride the trails and open spaces throughout the community, and outside it too. It is a beautiful area for riding, with spectacular views, waterfalls, creeks and fruit you can even pick from horseback. The 150 mature mango trees make that easy.
Why it Works for Owners Who Rent
We cannot guarantee any level of rentals. Still, Atenas is a logical place for a vacation home that owners also rent out. It is a convenient stop for travelers coming from the beach who want a quiet day or two before a flight, and the self-sufficient, off-grid homes will likely appeal to people curious to experience a modern home designed to be independent from the start.
