We Saw It Coming. That Is Why We Started Veritas Villages.
When we started building Veritas Villages, we knew exactly what we stood for and why we were doing it. And we still do!
We believed that people needed alternatives. Places where they could live with more freedom, become more independent, raise their families according to their values, and take back control over the basic things that sustain their lives.
At the time, some people understood what we were trying to do. Others probably thought we were taking things too far, or that building self-sustainable communities was an extreme response to problems that might never really affect them.
But look at the world today.
The nonstop riots in France, the growing insecurity in England, Germany, Spain and other countries, the political divisions in the United States, the increasing taxation and cost of living in Canada, and in general, the rapid cultural changes taking place throughout Western societies. More and more people are questioning what is happening to their countries, their communities, their freedoms, and the future their children will inherit.
We are seeing growing government intervention in people's lives, protection of criminals and not of their own citizens, increasing polarization, and political ideologies that place more power in the hands of the state. We are also seeing many parents concerned about what their children are being taught, what they are being exposed to, and whether traditional family values still have a place in the societies where they live. We also see parents gradually losing control over their children’s education, to the point where they can risk losing their own children if they refuse to accept what schools or authorities are imposing. It is something straight out of Orwell’s 1984.
These are not new concerns for us. They are some of the very reasons we started Veritas Villages in the first place.
And as time goes on, we believe the need for what we are building is becoming more obvious.
We did not create these communities because it was trendy to live off grid, grow your own food, or install solar panels. We did it because we believe independence matters. We believe freedom matters. And we believe that relying entirely on systems we cannot control leaves us vulnerable when those systems fail us.
So, we focus on the things we can control: to build something different and special and offer it to everyone who is interested in being part of it. That is why we have our own solar power systems. That is why we develop our own water sources and wells. And that is why we grow food through our gardens, orchards and food forests.
For us, it has never been just about having electricity, water, and food. It is about knowing where they come from and having a say in how they are produced.
We test our water and know its quality. We understand how our food is cultivated, what natural fertilizers are used, and how the land is managed. We produce our own power rather than depending on an electrical grid that is subject to outside decisions, rising costs, and disruptions.
We cannot control everything that happens beyond our gates, but we can reduce our dependence on outside systems and become more resilient.
And this is becoming increasingly important.
We also made a deliberate decision to build in countries where traditional values, family and personal freedoms remain important to many people. We want to live in places where parents can make meaningful choices about their children's education, including public school, private school or homeschooling. Where children can focus on learning the knowledge and skills they need to become capable, healthy and responsible adults, without being pushed into adult issues before they are ready.
Our communities have always been built around our F.I.R.S.T. philosophy of Freedom, Independence, Resilience, Sustainability, and Transparency. We have never hidden that. It is the foundation of Veritas Villages, and it guides the decisions we make about our communities.
We also know that no place is perfect, and no country is immune to political, economic, or cultural changes. We are not promising that living in one of our communities will protect you from everything happening in the world. What we are offering is an opportunity to live differently, with greater independence, more control over your resources, and a community of people who share important values.
When we look at what is happening today, we see that our original vision was not misplaced. If anything, we feel more strongly about it.
The world is changing, and not everyone is comfortable with the direction it is taking. More people are beginning to ask questions that we were asking years ago.
Where is our food coming from? Who controls our power and water? How much freedom do we really have? Can we be forced to be compliant by having our power or water turned off? What kind of environment are our children growing up in? And what happens if the systems we depend on become unreliable or the values we believe in are no longer respected where we live?
These are questions worth asking before a crisis forces us to ask them.
That is why we started Veritas Villages. Not because we wanted to wait until something went wrong, but because we believed it was better to prepare, to build alternatives and to give people choices.
We have been doing this from the beginning, and we will continue doing it.
We welcome people who understand our vision, who value freedom and family, who want to take greater responsibility for their own lives, and who believe that the future should be something we actively build rather than simply accept.
Because independence is not about being afraid of the world. It is about being prepared to face it without giving up the things that matter most.
And that is what Veritas Villages has always been about. If you see yourself identifying with these ideas, we would love to welcome you into our communities and have you become part of our Veritas Village family.
