A Wake-Up Call for Our Times
Andrea Martinez, September 17, 2025
The world feels upside down. Charlie Kirk, a devoted husband, a father of two little children, a Christian, and a patriot was killed in the most cowardly way—simply because he dared to speak openly about what he believed and had the courage to engage with those who disagreed.
I followed his work closely. I watched nearly every video he posted—him sitting on a simple chair with a microphone, inviting anyone to step up and share their thoughts. Most who approached were young people: some came with honest questions to challenge him, others with sharp opinions, and a few with nothing but insults. Yet his response was always the same: calm, gracious, respectful. Even to those who hurled slurs, he would reply, “Thank you—but would you like to have a conversation?”
He never took offense. Instead, he modeled resilience, accountability, and independent thought. He urged young people to read, to think for themselves, and to resist letting schools or universities dictate how they should live or what they should believe.
The accusations against him—racism, homophobia, misogyny—are simply not true. Many of the videos shared online have been clipped and taken out of context, painting a distorted picture of his words and intentions. At his core, he wanted unity. He also believed that no culture can survive if merit is sacrificed for the sake of diversity. Everyone should have equal opportunity, but not everyone will put in the work to achieve their goals. Choosing someone for an important role based on appearance rather than ability is not only unfair, but harmful. What he said often made profound sense. Even if his words weren’t considered “politically correct” by today’s standards, they reflected reality. And he had the courage to speak out where many remain silent.
His death is a devastating loss. At just 31, after beginning his mission at 18, he had already accomplished more than many achieve in a lifetime. My first reaction was shock, sadness, and anger. But I soon realized—his enemies had only turned him into a martyr. His legacy is already awakening millions. Every day, more people are finding the courage to speak out, to seek truth, and to draw closer to God because of what happened to Charlie. Even in her grief, his wife showed remarkable strength, vowing to continue his work. They did not silence him; instead, they awakened a giant in the hearts of countless young people whose minds and lives were forever changed by his message.
Now is a time to mourn, yes—but it is also a time to be stronger, braver, and bolder. Silence is no longer an option. He believed deeply in the family as the foundation of society and often said that God must come first in life. Even for those who are not religious, the values he stood for—family, truth, life, and freedom—are what make a nation strong, prosperous and healthy.
Defending the innocence of children, protecting life, speaking truth even when it offends—these are not acts of hate. They are acts of love. Real love warns when something is harmful, challenges lies, and stands up for what is right.
His passing also made one thing painfully clear: the West is in deep trouble. Seeing young people celebrate his death, saying he deserved it, and mock his life reveals how far our education and culture have drifted. It proves that we must act now.
We need communities where humanity is valued, where people can think differently yet still live together with respect. As he once said, “When dialogue stops, violence begins.” He was right. Dialogue is the foundation of peace, and without it, division and destruction follow.
This is a wake-up call. Each of us must decide: Where do we want to live? What kind of community do we want to raise our children in? Where will our values be protected and our neighbors not treated as enemies just for having another point of view?
Now more than ever, we must choose wisely, and we must not be silent.
“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
